Do intestinal polyps grow after removal?

Intestinal polyps may recur after removal, mainly related to the type of polyp and the treatment method. Intestinal polyps are bulging lesions protruding from the surface of the intestinal mucosa into the intestinal lumen, which can occur in any part of the intestinal tract, and patients may experience symptoms such as blood in the stool, abdominal pain, and changes in bowel habits. After local excision of multiple intestinal polyps, polyps may not recur in the surgical site, but may recur in other parts of the bowel. In addition, if the intestinal polyps are benign polyps, they can be cured by endoscopic polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection, simple excision of polyps, etc., and the chances of local recurrence are generally low. If the polyp is a tubular adenoma, the chance of recurrence is also very small by actively adopting relative treatment. However, if the intestinal polyp is a villous adenoma, it has a higher risk of becoming cancerous and a higher likelihood of recurrence after resection. If polyps become cancerous, after local excision, there is a certain recurrence rate, and even life-threatening. After the resection of multiple intestinal polyps, patients should strictly follow the doctor’s instructions for regular follow-up and review, in order to early detection and early treatment.
