The effects of camptothecin injection on eyes include dilating blood vessels, relieving vasospasm, increasing blood flow, and improving blood supply to the fundus. It is mainly used in the treatment of ischemic optic neuropathy, ischemic retinopathy, ischemic choroidopathy and diabetic retinopathy.
The pharmacological effect of camptothecin injection is to accelerate the restoration of the normal level of vasoactive substances in the ischemic area of the eye, to relieve vasospasm, to maintain the normal tension and diastolic function of choroidal blood vessels, to dilate blood vessels, to increase the blood flow, to improve the supply of blood flow, and thus to promote the rapid recovery of ischemic tissues. The commonly used route of administration is subcutaneous injection adjacent to the superficial temporal artery on the affected side, or paraballistic injection in case of emergency.
