Post-discharge review time for Kawasaki disease in young children

After discharge from the hospital, children without coronary artery disease require a complete examination, including physical examination, electrocardiogram, and echocardiogram, at 1, 3, 6 months, and 1 to 2 years after discharge. Children who are not effectively treated have a 10% to 20% chance of developing coronary artery disease and should be followed up over time, every 6 to 12 months. Most dilated coronary arteries or coronary aneurysms resolve spontaneously within 2 years of the disease, but often there is residual wall thickening or loss of elasticity.
