Basic treatment of venous disease of the lower extremities

The root cause of lower limb vein diseases (common ones such as varicose veins and venous thrombosis) is the difficulty of lower limb venous blood return caused by human uprightness, blood stagnation in the lower leg, which causes incomplete closure of venous valves over time, clinical bleeding varicose veins, soreness and swelling in the lower leg, later causing bruising dermatitis and even ulcers, which is fundamentally a blood stagnation problem. The treatment of lower extremity venous disease is not like appendicitis, which will be solved after an operation, or bacterial infection, which is mainly treated by medication. This type of disease emphasizes a combination of treatment, i.e., correction of lower extremity stasis on the one hand and secondary pathological changes caused by long-term stasis on the other. The overall treatment consists of four main measures: elevation of the limb, elastic stockings, surgery and medication. The first two are the treatment measures for the cause of the disease, which are very important, and only on this basis surgery and medication will be effective. Many patients always feel that they have to undergo surgery or take medicine, and they always feel that the doctor’s order to elevate their feet or suggest wearing elastic stockings is not very useful, which is a very unfavorable concept for the treatment of venous disease. Often some patients with intractable ulcers, phlebitis or chronic venereal disease come to me, and I know that the most effective measure for these patients is to strictly ask them to elevate their limbs in bed, and on this basis the effect will be obvious with reasonable medication. Patients often joke that our hospital’s medicine is more righteous, the same medicine with good results, in fact, it is not the difference between the drugs, the main difference is the painstaking instructions to go back to bed rest, so that they realize the great significance of physical therapy. For less severe venous disease, it is also important to develop the habit of elevating the limb lying down every few hours and insisting on wearing elastic stockings to control disease progression, improve symptoms and prevent complications. In view of the fact that relatively some patients and even some doctors do not know and pay enough attention to these basic treatment measures for venous diseases of the lower limbs, we would like to make an appeal.
