How long can you live with bile duct stones?

Biliary stones are a common biliary tract disease. Gallbladder stones, common bile duct stones or intrahepatic bile duct stones can be effectively treated by performing surgery such as cholecystectomy, choledochotomy to remove stones or partial hepatectomy, and generally do not affect life expectancy. In case of severe infection and obstruction, the patient’s life may be endangered, such as acute obstructive purulent cholangitis, which is more aggressive and if not treated in time, the patient may rapidly develop shock symptoms, which may be life-threatening. In addition, long-term intrahepatic bile duct stones can easily lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatic bile duct cell carcinoma, which can affect patients’ life expectancy.
