In addition to the hyperplasia of the mucosa, the submucosa and even the bone may also show limited or diffuse hyperplasia and hypertrophy.
The main symptom of chronic hypertrophic rhinitis is nasal congestion, from intermittent or alternating nasal congestion gradually changed to persistent nasal congestion, accompanied by occlusive nasal sound, nasal secretion is small and thick, not easy to blow out, but also may have smell loss, tinnitus, hearing loss, headache, dizziness and other discomforts.
Chronic hypertrophic rhinitis is usually treated with medication with little effect, and surgery is generally recommended. In case of inferior turbinate mucosal hypertrophy, partial resection of inferior turbinate is feasible, and the principle of mucosal resection should not be more than 1/3 of the inferior turbinate. In the case of inferior turbinate hypertrophy, inferior turbinate osteotomy under mucous membrane and inferior turbinate fracture displacement are feasible.
