In clinical practice, we often encounter parents who say that their child has ADHD, and when they come to the clinic, they see the child sitting quietly but blinking and shrugging his nose or twisting his neck or making noises in his throat, and after examination, the child is diagnosed with tic disorder. In addition to inattention and hyperactivity, children with hyperactivity may also have blinking and neck twisting; whether it is tics or hyperactivity depends on whether the main symptom is inattention and hyperactivity with impulsivity or multiple tics such as blinking and shrugging. The clinical issues are very complex and the causes of these two disorders are complex and can be co-morbid with each other, so parents should take their children to the hospital in a timely manner. Both tic disorder and ADHD are pediatric neuropsychiatric disorders with complex etiology. Diagnosis needs to be based on clinical manifestations, neuropsychological tests and necessary specialized examinations and neuroimaging, and digital video EEG except for other neurological disorders; clinical diagnosis must be a comprehensive analysis and diagnosis by a professional doctor. Chinese medicine treatment has certain efficacy, and its mechanism of action is still under further study.
