Minimally invasive surgery for calcification of a giant herniated lumbar disc

The patient, a 46-year-old female, had intermittent pain and numbness in her lower back and right lower extremity from the posterior lateral side to the ankle for more than 4 years, accompanied by foot pain and numbness, and she had to take a break to walk 100 meters before she could continue walking. He was hospitalized in our department for 8 days and underwent lumbar disc nucleus pulposus removal surgery via intervertebral foraminoscopy, after which his back and leg pain improved significantly and the imaging changes were obvious. The red arrow of Luan Jing of the Pain Department of Tianjin First Central Hospital indicates the patient’s preoperative lumbar spine CT showing huge calcification of lumbar 4-5 segments, and the green arrow indicates the lumbar spine CT showing complete removal of calcification of lumbar 4-5 segments on the third day after surgery.
