The Chinese medicine diagnosis of obesity commonly includes phlegm-dampness, spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction, spleen and kidney yang deficiency, stomach heat stagnation spleen, liver and stomach depression and heat, etc. The details are as follows. 1. Phlegm-dampness: it mainly manifests as fat, heavy body, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, addiction to fat, sweet, alcoholic beverages, fatigue and lying down. 2. Spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction: mainly manifested as bloated body, fatigue and weakness, heavy limbs (limb weakness and fatigue), low urine and poor appetite, abdominal fullness, loose stools (thin and unformed stools) or constipation. 3. Yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney: mainly manifested as obesity, fear of cold limbs, easy swelling of the face, fatigue, abdominal distension and loose stools, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime, aggravated by sweating with slight movement), shortness of breath and so on. 4. Stomach heat stagnation in the spleen: mainly manifested as obesity, hyperphagia, distention and fullness in the epigastrium (abdomen), burning pain in the stomach and epigastrium. 5. Stagnant heat in the liver and stomach: the main manifestations are obesity, bitter fullness in the chest and hypochondrium (feeling fullness and discomfort in the front and sides of the chest), gastric plumpness (fullness and discomfort in the stomach), irritability, bitter and dry mouth and tongue, abdominal distension and nausea (lack of appetite, reduced food intake) or overeating, and so on.
