Stage III lung cancer is defined as a lung mass larger than 7 cm and/or lymph node metastasis in the mediastinum or lymph node metastasis in the supraclavicular region. If the lump is larger than 7cm, but there is no lymph node metastasis, it is called locally advanced stage. The cure rate of locally advanced stage lung cancer is about 20%-30%. If lung cancer cannot be cured by surgical resection, the best way is to undergo simultaneous radiotherapy and 4-6 cycles of chemotherapy with local radiotherapy to prolong the patient’s survival, or to use neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgical resection. The purpose of neoadjuvant chemotherapy is to shrink the tumor or regress the lymph nodes before radical resection, at which time the cure rate is less than 20-30%.
