People may be more familiar with frostbite, especially in the north, where frostbite can occur in the winter if you are not careful, but not much is known about frostbite, and most people are even less aware that severe frostbite still requires amputation. When it comes to amputation, it’s a scary thing, so not only do we have to ask, under what circumstances is frostbite considered serious enough to require amputation? Frostbite is generally caused by low temperatures below the freezing point, with more localized frostbite, and can be divided into four degrees: namely, one degree of erythematous frostbite, two degrees of blistering frostbite, three degrees of corrosive frostbite, and four degrees of thrombosis and vascular occlusive frostbite. Sometimes it can also be divided into superficial frostbite (first degree and second degree) and deep frostbite (third degree and fourth degree). For mild frostbite there is no need for amputation, and amputation is only necessary in relation to deep frostbite. Why deep frostbite must be amputated, there is no other remedial measures? The reasons are as follows: 1, deep frostbite has led to local neuromuscular necrosis and vascular damage and occlusion, that is, muscle tissue has been all, complete, irreversible necrosis, deep into the muscle and bone. That is a pile of rotten meat, even through rewarming treatment is difficult to let the frostbite parts survive; 2, the necrotic parts are easy to secondary infection, the source of infection will also start along the trauma to the healthy parts of the concurrent infection, but also may make the infection spread to all parts of the body, to the point of life threatening. Therefore, the ultimate purpose of amputation of severe frostbite is to prevent further deterioration of the disease process, a sacrifice of local, save the whole picture of surgical thinking is reflected. It is recommended that frostbite be treated with an emphasis on prevention and early rewarming. In particular, those who live in the northeast, or those who go to the northeast, must be fully aware of the importance of good warmth. Minor frostbite is not very avoidable, but avoiding severe frostbite should be doable.
