A joint report from the Karolinska School of Medicine in Sweden and the Harvard School of Public Health in the United States states that X-ray radiation severely damages children’s intelligence. The researchers looked at 3,000 children who had been treated with X-rays to remove birthmarks on their heads before they were a year and a half old and found that their intelligence was significantly lower than that of children who had not been exposed to X-rays as infants and toddlers. They went on to high school at only half the rate of children who had not received X-rays, and their learning and thinking logic was generally inferior to the latter. Another study from the University of Mississippi Medical Center suggests that the limit of the normal amount of radiation an adult can take in a year is 5 msv. In addition to natural X-rays, each of us adults can take 40 chest films and do 2 or 5 chest x-rays in a year within the normal range, while doing a CT scan is 6 times more than the limit. After the structure is damaged, it is difficult to repair, causing gene mutation and chromosomal translocation, inducing cancer, and the damage to children is more obvious in the following aspects: 1. The higher the dose of X-ray exposure, the greater the damage to the patient, and the greater the damage to infants and children under 18 months of age. 3. Children are 10 times more sensitive to X-rays than middle-aged people, and even low doses can cause harm to children, especially to girl patients. 4, children receive more times in a short period of time X-ray exposure, the harm slowly accumulate. 5, the damage is mainly in three areas: gonads, thyroid and white blood cells. It can lead to a variety of diseases, such as leukemia, aplastic anemia, premature aging, reproductive system diseases, cataracts, and even induce cancer. Radiation is ubiquitous in our lives. And while it brings us unlimited convenience in modern life, it also threatens our health. Therefore, radiation protection experts are also reminding everyone: radiation is harmful to health, with the best line before weighing the pros and cons.
