What does middle cerebral artery mean?

The middle cerebral artery is an important vessel for blood supply to the brain, in addition to the anterior cerebral artery and the posterior cerebral artery. The middle cerebral artery is a direct continuation of the internal carotid artery and is divided into two branches: the left and right. The main blood supply areas are the cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, and thalamus. Occlusion and bleeding of the middle cerebral artery can cause severe neurological impairment symptoms, common symptoms include limb weakness, sensory impairment, slurred speech, and in severe cases, consciousness impairment and even coma.
