What are the herbal remedies for atherosclerotic occlusive disease of the lower limbs?



Lower limb arteriosclerosis occlusive disease in Chinese medicine belongs to the category of “gangrene (at first cold and numbness of the limbs, then necrosis of the toe joints, black rot and ulceration, long time no healing)”, the Chinese medicine for lower limb arteriosclerosis occlusive disease usually has detoxification and Jisheng Tang, Yanghe Tang, Gubu Tang and so on.

Yanghe Tang, composed of ripened rhubarb, ephedra and antler gelatin, has the efficacy of warming yang and tonifying blood (warming yang qi and replenishing blood), dispersing cold and clearing stagnation. It is mainly used for treating yin gangrene (a general term for a class of yin sores and ulcers with slow condition), such as paste bone gangrene, dehiscence gangrene, and rheumatism (multiple abscesses originating from the deep part of the muscle), etc., with diffuse swelling and headlessness of the affected area, pale tongue with white moss, and dull or late and fine pulse.

This formula should not be used if the sores are red, swollen, hot and painful, or if there is heat in yin deficiency, or if the gangrene has been broken.

3. Gu Bu Tang, composed of astragalus, dendrobium, angelica, hyssop, and zhi hua di ding, etc., is used to treat the first signs of gangrene.
