When an elderly person does not eat, it is important to find out the reason and give treatment for the cause. Some elderly people are suffering from infections, fever, poor appetite or digestive system diseases such as abdominal pain and bloating, which affect their appetite. Some elderly people are reluctant to eat because of emotional and psychological reasons, and can resume eating through anti-anxiety, depression and psychological counseling. If the elderly are reluctant to eat due to chronic tumor and other serious diseases, they should be routinely given nasal feeding tube, nasal intestinal tube to assist in feeding or gastrointestinal nutrition, and if necessary, gastrostomy is feasible. Therefore, once the acute phase of the disease is over, autonomous feeding should be resumed as soon as conditions permit.
