Fetal clubfoot is often not indicative of cerebral palsy. Some fetuses in the breech position in the mother are prone to clubfoot. Clubfoot is most often caused by the position of the fetus as it grows in the mother’s body, e.g., clubfoot develops as a result of poor posture of the fetus’ feet in the mother’s uterus. This type of neonatal clubfoot is easy to see and can be cured over time. In severe cases of clubfoot, clinicians recommend that parents touch their newborns to promote motor nerve development. However, there are also fetuses with clubfoot combined with chromosomal abnormalities, and adequate evaluation is recommended.
