Retinal detachments are divided into primary retinal detachments (fissure-derived retinal detachments) and secondary retinal detachments (exudative, retractive) depending on the cause. In the case of lacunar-derived retinal detachment, laser interception can be tried if the detachment is relatively limited and small in extent. If the extent is larger, surgical treatment is required, and different surgical procedures are chosen depending on the retinal detachment, the size and location of the fissure, and the presence or absence of cataracts. If it is an exudative retinal detachment, the primary disease should be treated. For retinal detachment caused by traction, vitrectomy is usually required.
