The treatment of otoliths mainly involves repositioning, and if there are symptoms such as dizziness after repositioning or if there is a combination of other diseases, medication, such as betahistine, can be administered.
Otoliths, or otolithiasis, cause recurrent episodes of transient vertigo with characteristic nystagmus. There is no single drug that can treat otolithiasis and reset the otolith; if the otolith is reset and there is balance disorder, dizziness, or if there is a combination of other diseases, medication is required as prescribed by the doctor, commonly used drugs such as ginkgo biloba extract and betahistine to improve the microcirculation of the inner ear.
Otolith repositioning is the most effective treatment for this disease at present, through the manipulation of repositioning, in order to eliminate vertigo and nystagmus; a very small number of patients in the manipulation of repositioning after the symptoms are still prolonged, can consider surgical treatment.
Patients with otolithiasis should be treated under the guidance of a physician, and should not take medication on their own to avoid adverse consequences.
