Can I shower and exercise after varicose vein surgery?

After the surgery, regardless of the results, patients need to strictly follow the doctor’s orders for activities. Here are some post-surgery precautions to inform patients, which we hope will be helpful. Activity: Because it is a surgery on the leg, many patients ask about post-operative activities. Strictly speaking, the surgery does not affect the patient’s activities very much, and I do not encourage patients to be bedridden for a long time after surgery. As a standard rule, patients can get out of bed 4-6 hours after waking up from general anesthesia, and I generally recommend that patients get down and move around the day after surgery is completed. However, it is important to avoid strenuous exercise, such as running, jumping, and squatting with large amplitude, and you can take a normal walk or engage in light work. Diet: Patients need to prohibit smoking and limit alcohol after surgery, what they usually eat can also be eaten after surgery, those high nutrition foods that are not usually eaten, do not need to purposely eat, which may instead cause allergies. Removal of stitches: Patients can be discharged on the second day after surgery. Now the surgery does not need to remove the stitches, but it needs to be reviewed one week after the surgery; in those days when the pain peaks after the surgery, it is also necessary to come to the hospital to see if the patient has any serious inflammatory reaction. Bathing: To avoid infection, the surgical site should not be exposed to water for two weeks. Other areas can be wiped. Elastic bandage and elastic stocking: In our hospital patients usually have surgery on the first day, can go down on the second day, and can be discharged on the third day; they need to wear an elastic bandage after surgery, and can remove the elastic bandage on the day of discharge and then wear elastic stocking.
