Knee arthroplasty is better than conservative treatment for knee osteoarthritis

Although many physicians acknowledge the effectiveness of total knee arthroplasty in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee in everyday medicine, with 1 million new knee replacements performed in the United States each year as reported at the AAOS meeting, its therapeutic value is increasingly recognized worldwide and is becoming more commonly accepted. However, there is still a lack of relevant, high-quality, probative medical evidence to support the superiority of treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee over conservative treatment. Now scholars from the University of Southern Denmark have conducted a randomized controlled study comparing the efficacy of treatment with conservative treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. The study suggests that it is more effective than conservative treatment. The article was recently published in. The study had high credibility by including patients strictly according to the guidelines for parallel, randomized and controlled studies published in 2010. The findings suggest that in patients with moderate-to-severe knee osteoarthritis, conservative treatment followed by row is more effective in relieving pain and improving knee function. However, the risk of serious adverse events was higher than with conservative treatment, and most patients in the conservative treatment group did not progress beyond 12 months after conservative treatment, but achieved some degree of knee pain relief and functional recovery. In practice, we have also had the profound experience that conservative treatment is also popular for patients who do not have high demands on quality of life (mainly the need for exercise capacity), and limiting activity in exchange for pain relief is a concept accepted by many older adults. However, for good mobility and quality of life, arthroplasty is definitely a great value. Our peers have confirmed our daily practice experience with rigorous research, giving me and my patients more confidence and certainty in our treatment choices.
