What is a hymen

The hymen is a relatively thin fold of mucous membrane located at the outer vaginal opening. It has different shapes, such as round, crescent, sieve, etc., and has a small hole in the middle through which menstrual blood flows. Usually, hymenal rupture occurs during sexual intercourse or after strenuous exercise. It is important to emphasize that not all women bleed the first time they have sex, some bleed a little or not, and may not feel any obvious pain, and some women have thicker hymens with better elasticity, so the first time they have sex may not cause the hymen to rupture completely. If a girl has not had sex yet, she must pay attention to minimize the act of riding across and not to insert special hard objects or fingers into the vagina, which may cause accidental hymen rupture. If there are gynecological abnormalities, she must inform the doctor when she comes to the hospital that she has not had sex yet, and she must do a vaginal ultrasound and check the anus to avoid medical causes of hymen rupture. The hymen for women can help reduce the invasion of outside germs and reduce a protective barrier after sex, so be sure to pay attention to hygiene before and after intercourse to avoid causing vaginitis. Again, not all women will “see red” when they first have intercourse.
