What is the meaning of puncture and drainage

Puncture and drainage is a very common treatment in clinical practice, especially currently under ultrasound guidance or CT guidance. In clinical practice, puncture drainage is most commonly used in the following three conditions or diseases: 1. mainly in cases of infection due to pleural effusion, or respiratory distress due to a large amount of pleural effusion, which is usually treated by intracostal puncture and drainage; 2. in cases of cirrhosis after hepatitis, where a large amount of ascites causes increased intra-abdominal pressure, and peritoneal puncture is used to release ascites to relieve the patient’s intra-abdominal hypertension; 3. mainly in cases of abdominal Surgery, such as hepatobiliary, gastrointestinal or appendiceal sepsis after the residual fluid in the abdominal cavity, or even secondary bacterial infection, the formation of abscesses and chills, fever, and even toxemia symptoms. Ultrasound-guided puncture and drainage is used to drain the pus to achieve the purpose of cure and avoid reoperation.
