The disease progresses slowly, with early asymptomatic, or asymptomatic symptoms due to bladder compensation called the quiescent phase of BPH. With the lower urinary tract obstruction aggravation, the symptoms gradually become obvious, called symptomatic (clinical) BPH, the emergence of symptoms has a close relationship with age, usually after the age of 50 years old symptoms. Its main bladder irritation symptoms, obstruction symptoms, obstruction complications of three aspects of the clinical manifestations: (1) bladder irritation symptoms: the main frequency of urination, increased nocturia, urinary urgency or with urinary pain, urge incontinence, etc., these symptoms may be related to the bladder outlet obstruction, non-obstructive forced urethral muscle instability; among them, the increase in the frequency of nocturia for the early symptoms of BPH. (2) Symptoms of obstruction: mainly difficulty in urination, hesitancy in urination, thinning of the urine line, feeling of incomplete urination, intermittent micturition, terminal dribbling of urine, etc. Hyperplasia of the glands leads to the lengthening, bending, and narrowing of the posterior urethra, or hyperplasia of the middle lobe may protrude into the neck of the bladder to form a spherical flap, which all make the resistance to increase during urination; among these symptoms, progressive difficulty in micturition is the most important symptom in patients with BPH. (3) Obstructive complications: Serious complications caused by BPH include acute urinary retention, recurrent hematuria, recurrent urinary tract infections, stone production, and renal function impairment, all of which are manifestations of the progression of BPH; among them, the incidence of acute urinary retention and renal function impairment is higher.
