Is encephalitis the result of a low-grade fever in the hands, feet and mouth?

HFMD cannot be diagnosed as encephalitis if there is recurrent low-grade fever without neurological symptoms. HFMD is an acute intestinal infectious disease that mainly affects children between the ages of six months and five years, and can be characterized by fever and rash. Generally speaking, a fever of 38.5°C or less is characterized by a low-grade fever, and a low-grade fever that doesn’t go away indicates that the child’s resistance is low. However, HFMD is still self-limiting and usually resolves in about a week. As long as there are no neurological symptoms associated with HFMD, it will not become a severe form of HFMD, and manifested as encephalitis, there is only a 2% chance that a child with HFMD will be converted to a severe form of the disease.
