Dark nails may be caused by trauma, or by diseases such as lichen planus or onychomycosis.
1. Trauma: If the nails have recently been traumatized, such as smashed or squeezed, resulting in bruising under the nails, the nails will appear dark in color.
2. Lichen planus: the etiology of this disease is not yet clear, may be related to the activation of T-cells cervical basal layer keratin-forming cells, the basic causes of the immune response abnormalities, genetics, viral infections, nervousness, smoking, etc., the typical symptoms of this disease include proximal nails with hyperpigmentation and longitudinal black nails, so that the patient will have the phenomenon of dark nail color.
3. Nail fungus: this disease is caused by dermatophyte infections, such as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mustelii, etc. It may also be caused by direct infection of tinea pedis. Common symptoms for nail color change, visible yellow, dirty color, etc. also will appear uneven, bleeding under the nail and other symptoms, therefore, part of the case can show my nail color dull.
