Indications for glaucoma laser surgery

The indications for glaucoma laser surgery include closed angle glaucoma, open angle glaucoma, absolute stage glaucoma, and refractory glaucoma.
Different laser surgery methods are adapted to different types of glaucoma.
1. Closed-angle glaucoma: In the presence of closed-angle glaucoma with pupillary block, YAG laser iridotomy is mostly chosen, which can release the pupillary block. For closed angle glaucoma with high ping iris, laser atrial angioplasty can be chosen.
2. Open-angle glaucoma: for some open-angle glaucoma, laser trabeculoplasty can be chosen to mildly reduce intraocular pressure.
3. Absolute glaucoma and refractory glaucoma: For many types of absolute glaucoma and refractory glaucoma, laser ciliary body photocoagulation can be chosen to reduce atrial aqueous production. It can be performed via the scleral channel if a lens is present, or endoscopically in the case of IOL or aphakic eyes.
Patients are advised to seek prompt medical examination and receive targeted treatment.
