Brainstem infarction is a kind of cerebral infarction, which is often associated with vascular sclerosis and embolism of the vertebrobasilar artery and its branches. Whether brainstem infarction can be restored to normal is usually related to the infarct area, infarct site and treatment time and other factors, and cannot be generalized.1. Infarct area: If the infarct area is small, the symptoms are relatively mild, manifesting as numbness and weakness of limbs or fingers, or mild dizziness, most of them can be restored to normal with early treatment. If the infarct area is larger and the symptoms are more serious, affecting the patient’s consciousness and respiratory system, such as coma and respiratory depression, there is a possibility of life-threatening, and even after timely treatment, the chances of recovery to normal are smaller; 2. Infarct site: due to the special function of the brainstem, the infarct site has a certain relationship with the later recovery. Brain stem is divided into cerebral bridge, midbrain and medulla oblongata, and cerebral bridge infarction is more common clinically, which is manifested as limb movement disorder, and most of them have good prognosis after active treatment and later rehabilitation exercises. Middle cerebral infarction is likely to cause sequelae such as eye fixation and abnormal activities, and it is more difficult to fully recover to normal. When lesions are produced in the medulla oblongata, it is easy to cause serious symptoms, which can endanger the patient’s life and is difficult to return to normal; 3. Treatment time: usually, patients with cerebral infarction within 6 hours of onset can be treated with thrombolysis and embolization to open the blood vessels and protect the brain in a short time. Combined with the subsequent active rehabilitation treatment, while taking aspirin, atorvastatin and other anti-platelet aggregation and plaque stabilization drugs to give control, the probability of recurrence of cerebral infarction can be reduced and normalization may also be possible. If it takes more than 6 hours, the possibility of returning to normal is reduced.
