New advances in endoluminal catheter thrombolysis

Extensive atherosclerotic occlusion of the lower extremities is a contraindication to minimally invasive endoluminal balloon dilatation and stenting. According to the conventional treatment, open bypass surgery must be used, which is not only traumatic but also slow in recovery, which is like adding insult to injury for patients who are already suffering from the disease. Recently, the Department of Vascular Surgery of our hospital admitted two such difficult patients, whose lower limb arterial occlusion section was more than 20 centimeters long. Under the guidance of DSA, the medical team of the department inserted a porous thrombolytic catheter into the occluded blood vessel and injected urokinase for local continuous thrombolysis. After 24 hours of “continuous combat”, the blood flow of the occluded vessel was finally restored, and the subsequent use of balloon dilatation and stent implantation of the mature therapy finally enabled the two patients to regain their health.
