There are two main types of defibrillator ECG monitoring: three-lead and five-lead, which require three or five electrodes to be placed on the anterior chest respectively.
1. Three-lead: The three-lead mainly has three leads: left upper (LA), right upper (RA), and left lower (LL), and the left upper electrode is placed in the 1st and 2nd intercostal space of the left midclavicular line, the right upper electrode is placed in the 1st and 2nd intercostal space of the right midclavicular line, and the left lower electrode is placed in the lower part of the raphe, respectively.
2. 5-lead: 5-lead left upper (LA) electrode sheet should be placed on the left midline of the clavicle between the 1st and 2nd ribs, right upper (RA) electrode sheet should be placed on the right midline of the clavicle between the 1st and 2nd ribs, the middle (C) should be placed on the left edge of the sternum between the fourth ribs, the left lower (LL) should be placed on the level of the raphe in the left midline of the clavicle, and the right lower (RL) should be placed on the level of the raphe in the right midline of the clavicle.
ECG monitoring can be used to monitor the electrical activity of the heart in critically ill patients, so it is sometimes accompanied by a defibrillator to facilitate the use of resuscitation.
