After varicose veins surgery, 2-3 levels of compression stockings are worn, 2 levels of compression stockings are worn after surgery for patients with simple varicose veins and 3 levels of compression stockings are worn after surgery for patients with complications of varicose veins. The purpose of wearing compression stockings after varicose veins surgery is to avoid deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs. Depending on the location of the varicose veins, the length of the stockings will be determined; if the varicose veins are only in the calf area, you can wear mid-calf stockings; if the varicose veins of the thighs are in the thighs, you need to wear long-calf stockings; and if the varicose veins accumulate to the groin, you need to wear pantyhose. When varicose veins are combined with complications such as ulcers and hyperpigmentation, the patient is required to wear level 3 compression stockings for at least two weeks after the surgery, and the physician will decide whether to continue using the stockings or not based on the patient’s recovery. During the period of wearing compression stockings, if swelling and pain are found in the lower limbs, immediate medical treatment is required.
