What is the difference between domperidone tablets and cisapride

Domperidone tablets and cisapride are both gastrointestinal motility drugs, both can strengthen and coordinate the movement of the gastrointestinal tract, stop food retention and reflux, and have a certain antiemetic effect, the two indications are similar. However, the main difference is that cisapride can selectively stimulate the release of acetylcholine from the intestinal muscles to promote gastrointestinal motility; domperidone tablets are stronger antagonists of dopamine D2 receptors. The side effects of cisapride are mainly fatal malignant cardiac arrhythmias, so the use of cisapride in hospitals has been restricted in China; while domperidone has no adverse effects in this regard, so it is widely used in clinical practice to relieve dyspepsia, bloating, belching, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and other adverse clinical manifestations.
