Role of cephalosporin skin test

The role of skin testing for cephalosporins is to reduce the likelihood of serious allergic reactions when direct cephalosporin injections are administered. Although some argue that skin testing does not completely prevent this part of the allergic reaction when administering cephalosporin, it can partially prevent it. Clinically, skin testing of cephalosporin is best applied to the original solution in which the cephalosporin is injected, and if a different batch is replaced, the relevant skin testing should also be performed in order to ensure, to the greatest extent possible, that no particularly severe allergic reactions occur when cephalosporin is injected from the clinical point of view. Because when a particularly serious allergic reaction occurs, the patient may quickly develop anaphylaxis and cause death, which is a very serious matter in clinical practice. Therefore, for cephalosporin, the role of its skin test in reducing severe allergic reactions should not be ignored.
