Metronidazole tablets are anti-anaerobic and anti-trichomonas agents. It is used for the treatment of intestinal and extra-intestinal amoebiasis, vaginal trichomoniasis, pouch worm disease, cutaneous leishmaniasis, guinea worm infections, anaerobic bacterial infections. The drug is mainly taken orally, stomach acid has the effect of digesting the tablets, while there is no such substance in the rectum to break down and digest them, and its cannot be used by inserting it directly into the anus.
