There is no standardized rule on when to cut a newborn’s hair, and if you choose to do so, just be careful not to hurt your child’s scalp. Newborns do not have to be born with a hair cut, and newborn hair cuts can’t improve the hair texture or thickness of the hair, because hair cuts can’t change the structure of the hair follicle, and thus can’t affect the growth of the hair. Newborns with seborrheic dermatitis, or the presence of cephalohematomas, need to have their hair cleaned in a timely manner to facilitate cleaning and treatment. Cutting the hair also helps with the baby’s skin care as well as puncture therapy. But newborns can also be left without a hair cut if there are no skin problems. This depends on what the parents think. There are no special medical rules.
