What the color of sputum indicates

Some of the special sputum colors can indicate characteristic diseases, commonly rust-colored sputum, yellow-green sputum, golden-yellow sputum, white sputum, pink foamy sputum and so on.

1. Rust-colored sputum: often suggests Streptococcus pneumoniae pneumonia.

2. Yellow-green sputum: yellow-green or emerald-green sputum can indicate Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.

3. Golden sputum: generally suggests staphylococcus aureus infection.

4. White sputum: white, thick and stringy sputum usually suggests the presence of fungal infections.

5. Pink foamy sputum: often indicates the presence of pulmonary edema.

It should be noted that the color of sputum can only be used as a clue to diagnose the disease, and the specific diagnosis should be made after conducting sputum culture and other tests. If there is any discomfort, it is recommended to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
