What causes red blood clots in the eyes



Common causes of red blood clots in the eyes include spontaneous conjunctival blood vessel rupture, hematologic disorders, trauma or surgery.

1. Spontaneous rupture of conjunctival blood vessels: Most common in the elderly, usually in combination with other diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus or other cardiovascular diseases, which can lead to rupture of subconjunctival blood vessels, resulting in the appearance of a red blood clot in the eye.
