There is no such thing as the most effective traditional Chinese medicine for lowering triglycerides, but there are gynostemma and hawthorn that have some effect on lowering triglycerides in the clinic. Gynostemma has the efficacy of benefiting qi and strengthening the spleen (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach), resolving phlegm and relieving cough, clearing away heat and detoxification (clearing away heat and toxicity in the body), and is used in the treatment of tiredness and weakness caused by deficiency of the spleen and stomach qi, poor appetite, and deficiency of qi and yin (qi and yin deficiency), caused by heat and dryness of the lungs, coughing and phlegm sticking, and so on. In addition, gynostemma also has the effect of resolving turbidity and lowering fat (cleansing the body of impurities and reducing excess body fat), and has a better effect on lowering triglycerides. The adverse effects and contraindications of this drug are not clear. Hawthorn has the efficacy of eliminating food and strengthening stomach (promoting food digestion, strengthening the function of stomach and internal organs), promoting qi and dispersing blood stasis, resolving turbidity and lowering fat, and is used for the treatment of epigastric (abdominal) distension caused by dietary stagnation, belching (hiccup), acid swallowing (swallowing of acid from the stomach upward to the mouth and pharynx), diarrhea and dysentery, abdominal pain, hiatal hernia, thoracic and abdominal pain caused by stagnation of blood and menstrual pain and other disorders. The adverse effects of hawthorn are not clear, and it should be used with caution in people with weak spleen and stomach without accumulation and stagnation. It is recommended to take the above Chinese medicines under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, and not to blindly use the medicines on one’s own, so as not to make mistakes in one’s condition.
