The initial judgment is based on the growth situation: the growth rate of infancy (under 3 years old) is less than 7cm/year, the growth rate of childhood (3 years old – puberty) is less than 4-5cm/year, the growth rate of puberty is less than 5.5-6.6cm/year, the length is less than 2 standard deviations (-2SD) of the average height of healthy children of the same age, the same sex and the same race (refer to the 2005 version of height standards) or in the third percentile of the growth curve. Those who are below the third percentile of the growth curve are considered to be short in stature.
