Ovulatory dysfunction is one of the main causes of female infertility and is mainly caused by disorders of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian functional axis, manifesting as anovulation or poor ovulatory function and luteal insufficiency. According to Chinese medicine, the inability of the follicle to rupture and the inability of the egg to be discharged normally is mainly due to the patient’s liver depression and kidney deficiency leading to qi stagnation and blood stasis. Acupuncture can help regulate Yin and Yang, move Qi and activate Blood. The Ren Vessel originates from the middle of the uterus and is the main vein of expectation and fertility. Zhongji and Guanyuan are the main points of the Ren Vessel and can be acupunctured to regulate the Qi and Ren. The uterus and ovaries are extra meridian points, which are important points for treating infertility. Together with high frequency intermittent waves, the vibrations generated can cause the smooth muscle of the ovaries to contract, which promotes the rupture of the follicle wall and ovulation, and is also less likely to produce adaptation. Foot San Li, San Yin Jiao and Feng Long can strengthen the spleen and resolve phlegm, tonify Qi and nourish Blood as well as invigorate Blood; Kidney Yu and Zhen Men can cultivate the Kidney and strengthen the essence; Nei Guan and Tai Chong can regulate Liver and Qi, “the Liver is the master of drainage”, normal drainage function of the Liver helps ovulation. Studies have shown that acupuncture has a benign effect on the secretory function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis. Acupuncture can increase the secretion of gonadotropins by stimulating the hypothalamus-pituitary system and normalize the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estradiol and progesterone, thus improving the ovulatory function of the affected patient. This improves the ovulation function of the patient. The advantage of acupuncture for ovulation is that it does not replace the hormonal action in the body and does not interfere with the endocrine balance in the body, which shows that acupuncture has its unique advantages in treating ovulation disorders.
