Lipomas of the scapula are located superficially in the skin of the body and most often occur in the lower right corner of the scapula. These lipomas are usually aggressive and may interfere with shoulder joint motion if they persistently increase in size, so surgical removal of lipomas of the scapula is usually recommended. For particularly large scapular lipomas, surgery should be performed under general anesthesia, while for superficial, smaller lipomas, surgery can be performed under local anesthesia. However, it is important to note that lipomas in the scapular region are somewhat invasive and the envelope needs to be completely removed to prevent recurrence.
