The main risk of uveitis in 13 year olds is the development of cataracts and glaucoma, which can damage the child’s vision. Cataracts can occur in children with uveitis, mainly due to clouding of the iris and inflammation caused by posterior iris adhesions, resulting in impaired lens metabolism and cataracts, leading to vision loss. During acute episodes of uveitis, it can also cause anterior and posterior iris adhesions as well as clouding of the aqueous humor, leading to obstruction of the aqueous circulation and secondary glaucoma, which can severely damage the vision of the child. It is recommended that children with uveitis be treated promptly, have their condition evaluated, and be treated under a doctor’s supervision to avoid delays.
