When dry eye patients sleep, they will not have symptoms of stinging and dryness if there is no lid closure insufficiency, but if there is a combination of lid closure insufficiency, they will have obvious dryness and stinging. Dry eye is a common disease in ophthalmology, the incidence of which gradually increases with age. It is caused by insufficient tear secretion in the eyes or by a decline in the quality of tears, and will be characterized by symptoms of dryness and stinging of the eyes. The eyelids close during sleep to protect the eyeballs and reduce the volatilization of tears, so dry eye symptoms are not usually exhibited during sleep. However, some patients have incomplete lid closure, which prevents the eyelids from closing completely to protect the eyeballs during sleep, and the evaporation of tears from the exposed surface of the eyeballs is accelerated, which in turn leads to worsening of the symptoms of dry eyes and stinging pain.
