Dental cysts are generally referred to as gum cysts. Gum cyst surgery can generally be recovered in 3 to 6 months, with some variation in the exact recovery time depending on the individual.
Dental cysts mainly originate from the epithelial tissues remaining during tooth development that are subjected to various stimuli that lead to resorption of the surrounding bone, or are formed by the spread of inflammation at the root tip of the tooth. Dental cysts require medical attention for cystectomy, i.e., complete removal of the cystic mass and appropriate enlargement to remove part of the bone tissue in order to prevent its recurrence.
Since dental cysts cause bone resorption and part of the bone tissue will be removed during the surgery, the healing and recovery period is relatively long; it takes about 3 to 6 months for the bone tissue to regrow and recover before it can basically heal completely. During the recovery period, the mouth must be kept clean and regular check-ups are required to monitor the healing process.
