Massage techniques for popliteal cysts

Massage is generally not recommended for popliteal cysts. Popliteal cysts are generally connected to the knee joint cavity, and if popliteal cysts are squeezed and massaged, the local inflammation may spread to the surrounding tissues, worsening the condition and further increasing the size of the cyst. Therefore, popliteal cysts generally cannot be massaged. If a popliteal cyst is detected, it is usually necessary to perform an imaging test to determine the specifics of the cyst. Treatment includes medication (e.g., hydrocortisone), surgery (e.g., arthroscopic surgery to directly remove the cyst), and open surgery (for those who cannot be cleanly removed by minimally invasive surgery). Popliteal cysts that are small in size usually do not require treatment. If popliteal cysts are found in large size, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and targeted treatment under the guidance of the doctor, avoiding blind massage, so as not to aggravate the condition.
