What is Costochondritis

Costochondritis is a kind of inflammation that occurs in the ribs or rib cartilage, which can also be called costochondritis, and most of them are chronic inflammatory lesions caused by various damaging stimuli for a long period of time, and the main manifestation is the recurring or intermittent pain in the position of the corresponding ribs or intercostal space, which can be aggravated by the pressure. The occurrence of costochondritis is mainly due to the blood transportation obstacle of ribs or rib cartilage, chronic strain around ribs and various traumas and other factors. The general clinical manifestation of costochondritis is pain in the chest, followed by bulging and swelling in the rib cartilage area, which may be accompanied by obvious pressure pain, and the pain will radiate to the back, scapula, or the same side of the shoulder joints, upper arm and armpit, and the pain may be aggravated by deep breathing, coughing, or activities. Some patients may also experience redness, swelling, heat and pain in the skin as the inflammation spreads around the area.
