Soft tissue density shadow in anterior mediastinum belongs to one kind of imaging manifestation in chest X-ray examination, which is mostly caused by thymic lesions, lymph node enlargement and intrathoracic goiter.
1. Thymic lesions: the most common is thymoma, preferably in the anterior superior mediastinum and anterior middle mediastinum, which is manifested as round or oval mass-like soft tissue density shadow in the anterior mediastinum on chest X-ray.
2. Enlarged lymph nodes: common diseases include primary bronchial tumor and lymphoma, which manifests as enlarged lymph nodes in the anterior mediastinum, and the imaging shows multiple enlarged lymph nodes and soft tissue density shadow in the anterior mediastinum.
3. Intrathoracic goiter: it is caused by cervical goiter constantly extending to the posterior sternum, and the imaging manifestation is oval mass-shaped soft tissue density shadow in the anterior mediastinum.
