What does aspirin treat?

Aspirin can be used to treat fever, pain, arthritis, and for anti-thrombosis. Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that reduces abnormally high body temperature; it can relieve mild to moderate pain or be used in combination with opioid analgesics for moderate to severe pain. Aspirin has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis to improve relief of symptoms and relieve pain. In small doses, aspirin has anti-platelet effects and is used to combat thrombosis. Normally aspirin is not used in children because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome; however, in Kawasaki disease, aspirin is a first-line treatment. Currently aspirin is more widely used for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease.
