With low HDL cholesterol, patients are relatively prone to atherosclerotic diseases, such as coronary artery disease, angina pectoris, and cerebral artery insufficiency, cerebral infarction, and cerebral ischemic foci. Therefore, in clinical practice, if low HDL cholesterol is found, patients are advised to take oral statins if necessary. These drugs can not only lower LDL and total cholesterol, but also help to raise HDL cholesterol, so that patients are less prone to atherosclerotic diseases when HDL cholesterol is raised and LDL and total cholesterol are lowered. Therefore, in clinical practice, we attach great importance to the index of HDL cholesterol, which has an anti-atherosclerotic effect. We suggest that patients should pay attention to regular blood lipid reviews and combine it with lifestyle interventions to help raise HDL cholesterol.
