The most common clinical cause is due to lumbar disc herniation. The herniated disc compresses or irritates the nerve roots causing radiating or pulling pain in the muscles of the nerve root innervation area. The pain is induced by straightening the leg, which is also known as the straight leg raise test in our clinic. A straight leg raise test (+) is indicative of a lumbar disc herniation. In the above case, the first step is to improve the lumbar spine CT or MRI examination to clarify the degree and direction of lumbar disc herniation. The most common clinical condition is lumbar 45 or lumbar 5 sacral 1 disc herniation, because most of the lumbar disc herniation in these 2 segments will compress the lumbar 5 nerve root or sacral 1 nerve root, which will lead to radioactive pain in the posterior thigh, posterior calf or lateral area. In addition to the improvement of the relevant examination, the treatment of this disease is mainly based on conservative treatment. Usually, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs with dehydrating and decongestant drugs are used for symptomatic treatment. It can also be cured with physical methods such as lumbar traction, massage, acupuncture and moxibustion.
