How to check whether the epiphysis is closed

Patients who want to check whether the epiphysis is closed can choose to go to the hospital for an X-ray examination. By looking at the epiphysis of the wrist and knee joints, we can determine the approximate bone age and thus determine whether there is still room for growth. If the epiphysis is closed, it means that the patient’s growth is over and the height will not continue to grow. If the epiphysis is not closed, it means that the patient still has the possibility to grow taller and can increase the height through more exercise, sun exposure and calcium supplementation. The growth spurt starts at the age of 12 and ends at the age of 18, and in some patients, the growth spurt can continue until the age of 20.
